Palo Verde Spring

Driving down my favorite highway
     Arizona 387

A forest of succulents
     celebrates the desert spring

Screaming yellow palo verde blossoms
      boldly announce new life

Red ocotillo and purple sage
      Provide contrast and compliment

And white blossoms adorn
      the giant saguaro

This floral symphony announces
      a new cycle of life

Soon the flowers will wither and die
      Under the desert sun

But for today this desert bouquet
       soothes my soul

And awakens the light
        of spring

Estopping wisdom

And leading to poor choices

No effective medication can cure

This cancer of the soul

Only love can do that
